Miraged Barriers
2025 | stone lithograph | 15 x 22 in. | variable edition of 18
The “gates to heaven,” represent a point of entry into the divine realm. This gate is symbolic of the self-inflicted barriers between myself and my idealized future. Despite being closed, the gate is defective, as its lack of continuity shows that logically, one could simply step around it rather than being stuck behind. Columns on either side of the gate feature a robin and a raven, the metaphorical “angel and devil” on my shoulder, inflicting an internal conflict of choosing the “right” or “wrong” path ahead. Only I hold the power to transcend the barriers I place in front of myself, and it’s up to me to decide when to simply step around.
