I And Us
Collaboration project with Gavin Devereaux. 2024, viscosity intaglio prints on toned cyanotypes paper. Variable edition made with three zinc plates.
For this collaborative assignment, we took inspiration from our shared queer identity. Examining the separations and intersections between feminine and masculine queerness, we emphasize how the overlap between the two gives strength and truth to the entirety of the queer community. Utilizing the rose, a symbol of love, on the small right and left plates, we separated the stems and thorns from the petals, representing our differences in perspective and experience pertaining to our identities. The middle plate brings the separate components of the flower back together, symbolizing the intersection of community, this time with the addition of lavender, a flower symbolic of queer love. The differing base colors of the two small plates are blended together on the middle plate, symbolic of our communal experience. Using toned cyanotypes as the paper, we responded to the tone to determine the colors of ink, focusing on the juxtaposition of colors associated with femininity for the plate of petals versus masculinity on the plate of stems.
