Always keep one eye open.

I often find artistic inspiration in common proverbs and sayings, relating them to my personal experiences as a means of connection to the broader human experience. This screen printed tapestry pulls from the phrase, “always keep one eye open,” - a phrase meant to warn one to be aware and take caution. This piece looks at the phrase in relation to LGBTQ+ relationships. For queer couples, showing affection is not something that can be done without caution; your safety can dissipate at any given moment. Especially right now, queer people are faced with the unfortunate reality of the inability to safely portray love to their partners - always having to keep one eye open for the sake of safety.
